Frequently Asked Questions
Vinowacje was created by winemakers for winemakers to help you comply with EU law. The app lets you enter everything European law requires: ingredients, nutrition values, allergen information, origin and recycling information (mandatory in Italy, for example). With our app you get all the tools you need to comply with the regulations in force.
VinowacjeQR was created by Nina and Patryk from Winnica Pod Prąd, first of all for our own vineyard. As winemakers, we know the challenges our fellow winemakers face when dealing with regulations. With our IT background, as a software developer (Patryk) and an analyst/project manager (Nina), we have the skills needed to build an efficient and secure app.
We decided that by sharing the tool we use ourselves to create the electronic labels for our wines, we can help other winemakers with reliable, easy-to-use solutions.
The requirement applies to wines produced after 8 December 2023. It comes from Regulation (EU) 2021/2117. Wines produced before that date may be sold under the previous rules until stocks run out.
No. What is mandatory is the list of ingredients and the nutrition declaration. They can be printed in full on the bottle or provided electronically behind a QR code, that is, on an e-label.
The advantage of an electronic label is that you can edit it at any time. If you make a mistake on a physical label and notice it only after the wine is on the market, correcting the information may be impossible. With an e-label in Vinowacje, you just click "Edit", make your corrections and save, and the correct data is immediately visible on every bottle of your wine.
The bottle must show the energy value, which can be marked with the symbol "E", and the allergens, for example "contains sulphites". Plus a QR code leading to the e-label and all the other mandatory information as before.
The information must be understandable to consumers in the country where the wine is sold. A Vinowacje e-label is displayed in all 24 official EU languages and automatically picks the language from the settings of the phone that scans it. You don't have to translate anything yourself. You create the label in any of the 24 EU languages - we take care of the rest.
Not if it replaces the mandatory information given on the physical label. The list of ingredients and the nutrition declaration must not be displayed together with sales or marketing content, or on a page that tracks visitors.
EU rules prohibit collecting and tracking user data on an e-label. A Vinowacje e-label contains no analytics, no cookies and no resources loaded from third-party servers.
No. The QR code leads to the e-label's permanent address, and its content can be changed at any time without replacing the QR code on the bottle.
Yes. Vinowacje works on a create once, edit as often as you like basis. The QR code leads to a link permanently stored on our server, and you can edit the content of the electronic label at any time, even after the bottles are labelled and the wine is on the market.
Yes. Every wine, and every vintage with a different composition or parameters, must have its own e-label and its own QR code, because the list of ingredients and the nutrition declaration refer to a specific wine.
The energy value is calculated from the content of alcohol, sugars, organic acids and polyols, using the conversion factors from Regulation (EU) 1169/2011. Alcohol provides 29 kJ, or 7 kcal, per gram. You get the alcohol, sugar, organic acid and polyol content from your laboratory analysis results. You enter the values when creating the label, and Vinowacje does the calculation automatically.
You must label sulphites if their concentration exceeds 10 mg/l, and egg and milk derivatives used for fining if they are present in the finished wine.
